FAQ - Why can't I access the databases using my laptop on campus?
There is a solution:
If you are using your own device to search databases while on campus, you will need to edit the URL to access the databases. This is due to campus firewall settings.
Here is the step by step process to do so, using Academic Search Complete as an example:
1. Hover over the link to the database and right-click to open menu
2. Select Copy Link Location
3. Open new browser tab/window
4. Paste link into browser address bar:
http://ezproxy.clinton.edu:2048/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?authtype=ip,uid&profile=ehost&defaultdb=a9h
5. DO NOT HIT ENTER
6. Highlight the entire proxy URL and equal sign (=) : http://ezproxy.clinton.edu:2048/login?url=
7. Hit DELETE key.
8. Press ENTER key - URL that remains should take you to the database

FAQ - Using the KIC Scanner on Course Reserves
Copying a limited selection of pages or a chapter from a book or an article from a journal for your personal educational use is generally considered Fair Use. You should also limit yourself to making one copy of whatever you need and not multiple copies to share with your classmates.
Photocopying an entire copyrighted book to read for class is a violation of copyright law.
If you need to read the entire book, it would be better to purchase it or see if the library has a circulating copy that you can check out.

Why can't I access the Internet from my laptop when I'm in the library?
There are several reasons that you may not be able to access the CCC wireless network on your own laptop from within the library, which may include laptop settings, campus network issues and the existing demand on the wireless network. I would like to highlight the latter, network demand, which seems to be ever present in the library.
Clinton Community College’s IT department has installed several wireless hotspots across campus in each of the buildings, and in some cases multiple hotspots within a building. Each hotspot can accommodate up to 50 concurrent users. The Moore Building has four hotspots throughout, including one in Douglas Library, to support the heavy traffic we see on a daily basis. Unfortunately, we are finding demand far exceeds supply, and many users are unable to access the network from their laptops.
What many don’t realize is that smart phones and other mobile devices sign on to the wireless network, even when the phone/device could be using the 3G network provided by the carrier. Without making a change in the device’s settings, this is frequently automatic, therefore occupying one of the 50 allotted seats, most likely unintentionally. Given the number of smart phones and other devices in use on campus, these 50 seats go quite fast, therefore blocking laptop users who do not have access to 3G or any other network.
With this in mind, I would like to encourage mobile device users to check their device settings. Please change mobile device settings to prevent automatically “signing on” to the network when not in use. Also, please set the mobile device to select the 3G service provided by the carrier whenever possible.
If everyone were to make these minor changes to their smart phones, tablets and other devices, many Clinton Community College students, faculty and staff would benefit from increased network access throughout campus.

Accessing your CCC email account
1. Once you're logged in to your student portal, click the Web Mail link located in the left sidebar menu.
2. A gray pop-up box will appear asking for your username and password. Type out your full campus email address (username) and your password will be the same as the one you used to log into your student portal.
Your email address is: [username]@students.clinton.edu
Ex. janemsmith@students.clinton.edu
If you are experiencing difficulties accessing your student email account, check your username. Some students have their middle initial in their username and others don't. Try typing out your username with both your middle initial and without.
Passwords must be at least six characters long. They are case-sensitive and must include at least one uppercase, one lowercase, and one numeric character.
If you need further assistance, please Ask a Librarian!

How do I cite an interview in my paper?
If you're citing in APA style, don't include any form of personal communication (e.g., emails, interviews, etc.) in your references. You'll only cite these resources in-text. Purdue OWL's APA Formatting and Style Guide has more information on how to handle these types of citations.

Computer and email information
You can find answers to your technology questions on the Student Portal website created by the Information Technology staff. Topics include usernames and passwords, email accounts, wireless hotspots, student network space (50 MB), printing quotas, and a knowledge base for Microsoft Office and Windows.
Converting file formats
If you have saved your term paper in a format that is not supported on this campus, you can convert your file by following these easy steps as suggested by the IT Department.
Saving your work on campus
You cannot save a document to the campus computers because all changes are lost when you log off. You can save your work to your campus network folder or save to an external drive, such as a thumb or flash drive.
Transferring a graph or image from PDF to a Word document
Follow these steps:
1. Find the graphic in the PDF that you want to copy. On the Adobe Reader toolbar, click on the camera icon.
2. Click on the mouse and hold while dragging the mouse over the graphic in the PDF until it forms a box outlining the graphic. When you let go of the left mouse button, a snapshot will be taken of whatever was outlined. You will receive a message saying "The selected area has been copied to the clipboard."
3. Open the document to which you want to add the graphic and click where you want to insert the graphic in the document. Then right click on the mouse and choose "Paste." The selected snapshot will appear exactly as it looked in the PDF. Any graphic or image used in a research paper needs to be cited - instructions for citing sources can be found on the library's website under APA/MLA/Chicago Guides.
Wireless Internet Access
